Wimbish and Debden's Lib Dem councillor steps down4.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 19th Sep 2005
David Corke, Liberal Democrat District Councillor for Wimbish and Debden has stepped down due to ill health. David told the Chief Executive in his resignation letter, "I have been suffering from illness now for some months, which has prevented me from taking part in meetings and generally from doing my duty as a Councillor. The Council has kindly allowed me an extended leave of absence until October, a gesture that I deeply appreciate, but it is still uncertain whether my state of health will permit me to return by then. Therefore, it is with great regret that I feel I must resign as Councillor for Wimbish and Debden. I would like to thank all my fellow Liberal Democrat Councillors who have helped me and encouraged me over these last months, and I wish Uttlesford Council every success in the future" Cllr Mark Gayler, Leader of the Council said, "I am very sorry that David Corke's illness has led to his resignation from the Council. David, being an honorable person, has put the interests of the dents of his ward before his own. We will be working hard to ensure continued Liberal Democrat representation in Wimbish and Debden when the by-election is held on October 27th."
